I was visiting my friends as I always do every Monday. It is such a special time being able to hang out with them in their home. The best part of each Monday these past two weeks has been being able to hold C*. C* is two weeks old. She is just the cutest little thing.
This particular Monday was just a bit different. As C*'s mother went to hand her to me, I jokingly said, "You aren't going to spit up on me are you?" Well, you know what that meant. She did. And oh boy, oh boy, oh boy did she.
No worries. I'm a mommy. I really wasn't worried about it. My C*'s mommy and others were. They told me to take off my shiedh (local dress) so they could wash it. I did as they asked. This left me sitting in their home with just my underclothes and a long slip that we wear under our shiedhs. Knowing this wasn't the most modest way to enjoy life, C*'s mom brought me a shawl to wrap around me that was large enough to cover head and upper body.
No further thoughts were put into this. We continued our visit for the next three hours. Then it was time to go. Thankfully the warm weather had allowed my shiedh to dry so I redressed and left.
Today I had language class with Lucky. Lucky as you know is my new sister.:) As we began class she, along with Kevin's teacher, shared with us that my wearing of the shawl caused quite the debate last night. It seems that a friend of theirs came over for evening prayers. When she asked for a shawl she was given the one I had worn while waiting for mine to dry. This was not good. There was no way she could wear something that a "dirty" person wore. You see, I was "dirty" not literally but sprtlly.
The discussion became so heated that they decided it was best to take the matter to the local mosque for further discussion. Through it all, Lucky and Eve were able to ask pointed questions such as, "How should we come before God?" "Is it our clothes or our hearts?"
Without a doubt we know that God will use. As Abraham (Kevin's teacher) said, "God is using a baby's vomit!"
